Asheville Therapists | Compassionate & Holistic Counseling
Not all Asheville therapists are the same. Over my fifteen years of providing psychotherapy and counseling here in Western North Carolina, I’ve worked with individuals from various walks of life. Something I often hear from the individuals that I work with include:
- I really appreciate how direct you are.
- Being in session with you feels like I’m getting interaction and genuine human connection, not just sitting with someone who nods and smiles as I talk.
- You help me to create a plan or a pathway forward, and I really appreciate that practical support.
Looking at Asheville Therapists? Here's why you should work with me:
Experience: Over fifteen years of being a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor I’ve honed my skills in providing skillful clinical support. With close to fifty years of lived experience, I’m also someone who can relate to life’s ups and downs and the changes that can occur during the life cycle.
Presence: I’m an experienced meditator and yogi, and that informs the quality of my presence and how I show up in the room with you. (In my Asheville therapy practice, I also teach mindfulness to interested clients.)
Engagement: I bring a natural curiousity and desire to better understand you and your situation. (Give me the deets!) While I value empathy, I’m also aware that when you’re struggling, sometimes empathy isn’t enough – you want direction, too.

My Approach to Therapy in Asheville:
I describe my style as warm and engaging. I am genuinely curious about people, behavior, relationships and patterns. This is just part of who I am and what makes me tick. You might say I chose the right career to exploit these innate qualities. (And I’d agree!)
The therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in any experience of therapy, so taking good care of our relationship is of utmost importance to me. I want to know who you are, what you’re struggling with, and what you want instead. I want to understand your history, your priorities, and your current understanding of why things are the way they are.
Some of the people I work with want “trick and tips” for how to better cope with challenges, others need perspective or insight when it comes to healthy relating, boundary setting or effective communication. Many of my clients want a good listener who can help with thinking things through, establishing priorities, or keeping them accountable. Still others want to heal insecure attachment and need a steady, trusted guide for the work of healing relational trauma.
My approach to therapy is to be a compassionate and practical presence as you grow through what you go through.
